Imagine, Innovate, Impact Change

Solutions to tough problems: Through its Impact/Innovations initiative, the organisation provides safe homes to former inmates, explores restorative justice in intimate partner and sexual violence and illuminates childhood trauma’s impact on those incarcerated. The Restorative Justice project shepherds youth through diversion programs in lieu of criminal charges and time in the juvenile justice system.

Tackling key challenges: Impact Justice’s funding landscape shifts every year, with grant opportunities phasing in and out over time, making the effort that much more difficult. Intentional growth is another challenge for Impact Justice, which strives to maintain a consistent organisational culture based on the true grassroots place that it started from.

Growing intentionally: Rapid growth in a four-year span created challenges. Tracking 20-30 different funding sources became nearly impossible with its previous project management system, and poor integration between their outsourced firm and its backend systems meant obtaining up-to-date financial statements could take up to six months. Implementing NetSuite and participating in the Suite Pro Bono Program helped solve operational workflow challenges.

Impressive success rates: Currently building a new facility that will also house other local nonprofits, Impact Justice is planning a “social justice hub” in Oakland and is continually seeking out new opportunities and ways to expand its outreach.
